British Airways Cancellation Policy

British Airways Cancelled Flight Refunds

According to British Airways’ cancellation policy, you are entitled to a full refund of your fare if:

  • You cancel a ticket within 24 hours of purchasing it, as long as your travel date is at least 7 days later.
  • British Airways cancels your flight.
  • British Airways changes your flight schedule significantly and it doesn’t suit you.
  • British Airways delays your flight by 5 hours or more.
  • British Airways reschedules a flight that does not stop at your destination.
  • British Airways causes you to miss a connecting flight you were booked on.
  • British Airways involuntarily denies boarding due to overbooking (in which case you may be entitled to compensation also).

Hot Tip: If your flight is delayed by more than 5 hours, you can choose not to take the new flight offered to you. You can ask for an alternative mode of transport (train) or—if you’ve flown a part of your trip—ask the airline to fly you back to your original point of departure free of charge.

British Airways (BA) Refund Policy

The major highlights of British Airways’ refund policy are as follows:

  • Involuntary refunds (if BA cancels your flight): British Airways’ Cancellation  policy for flights cancelled by the airline itself is as follows:
    • You will receive a refund for the unused part of your ticket. The amount of refund will be whatever you paid to British Airways in terms of fees, charges, surcharges, taxes, etc.
    • If you have partially used your ticket, the refund amount will be the difference between the total fare paid minus the used portion of the fare you consumed during your travel.
  • Voluntary refunds (if you cancel your flight): The British Airways refund policy for voluntary ticket cancellations by a passenger is as follows:
    • If you cancel your flight ticket for reasons other than those mentioned above, you will receive a refund on your ticket fare and other charges, surcharges, fees, etc., minus a cancellation charge and service charge (if applicable).
    • If you have partly used your ticket, the refund amount will be the difference between the total fare paid minus the used portion of the fare you already consumed during your travel—plus the applicable cancellation fee and service charge.
  • General Refund Conditions: The general conditions of the British Airways refund policy are as follows:
    • If you arrive at your final destination more than 3 hours late and the reason for the delay is within British Airways’ control (and not due to extraordinary circumstances which could not be avoided), you may have the right to claim compensation.
    • Non-refundable tickets cannot be voluntarily cancelled. The refund due on non-refundable tickets will be limited to the refundable taxes or fees paid. However, an exception can be made if you can prove that you were forced to cancel your ticket due to events beyond your control, in which case you may be issued a travel voucher (voucher credit) for future travel.
    • All refunds will be subject to the fare rules and conditions that apply to (and are mentioned in) your booking.
    • Refunds will be made to the person who paid for the ticket unless stated otherwise.
    • You must be able to prove that you paid for the ticket.
    • If you’re applying for a refund, you must hand over the ticket along with any unused flight coupons.
    • If you made a non-flight booking such as hotel accommodation, car hire, etc., you must cancel them separately.
