HP Printer Assistant – Why is A4 paper the default?

I just purchased an OfficeJet Pro 9015 as a replacement for my trusty OfficeJet 6700 which finally gave up the ghost. When I look at the software I had to install, I notice that Printer Assistant has six preset defaults in the Preferences section, that are set to use “A4” paper. I live in Canada, and “A4” is NOT the usual paper size here, or in the USA. We typically use “Letter” size. which has slightly different dimensions from “A4”.

The software is “HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 series PCL-3” – version 29.117.02.7675

HP Printer Assistant has these six presets “Locked” so they cannot be permanently altered. One can only select a pre-set shortcut and then temporarily change the paper to “letter”. If you change to a different pre-set shortcut, you again have to correct the paper size. If you then go back to the previous shortcut, it has reverted again to “A4” paper. I can create my own user-defined shortcuts, but they get intermixed with the original pre-set ones.

Is there a way to permanently alter the original presets to use my values as defaults. Surely there must be a North American version of this software.
