RuneScape has seen significant growth from its browser-based origins over the past few years, with Steamforged’s board game as the latest offering from Jagex. In an interview OSRS Gold, multiple Jagex employees spoke about transitioning the mobile version of RuneScape into the cross-platform game in September of last year, a cross-platform release.
Jagex joined forces with the creator of the well-known Old School RuneScape mod RuneLite HD to make the HD version available for all players. Steamforged’s next board game will give RuneScape’s passionate fanbase another opportunity to explore all the adventures of Gielinor and design their own adventures.
Runescape publisher Jagex’s publishing wing has picked up a promising indie release for it’s Jagex Partners brand, making Melvor Idle an indie no longer. It’s an idler game that’s similar to games such as Clicker Heroes or Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, launched on Steam last year . It carries its roots from Jagex’s top game Runescape extremely proudly.
Melvor Idle is a detailed, multi-track idle game that attempts to redefine “the core components of the RuneScape franchise in a manner that can be played with ease,” says the publisher. It’s a fairly rich in features, an idle game which has plenty of options for crafting and advance, aswell as an emphasis on zero prestige mechanics requiring a game restart.
Jagex apparently became aware of the project in early 2020. A large percentage of their staff members were enthusiastic about it following its debut Steam launch in the month of October that year. As it is obvious it, the developer is satisfied to have a connection to the creators of one of their top games. “Being being able to work directly alongside Jagex to directly work on this has been a dream that has come true,” said Brendan Malcolm who is the sole creator in charge of Melvor Idle studio Games by Malcs.
Malcolm posted a lengthy Q&A with Melvor Idle’s Reddit community, explaining that he’d maintain full creative control going forward, as well as stating that Melvor Idle’s single-purchase monetization model wouldn’t be altered. Jagex, he said, did not have “no desire” to alter anything regarding Melvor Idle. The publishing agreement will have Jagex taking on the localisation, marketing, tech support, and QA for Melvor Idle.
